Neighbourhood Project Northolt

Northolt and Greenford SNT's go fishing with the locals

Fantastic weather and community spirit were the background for the latest community initiative involving officers from Northolt and Greenford Safer Neighbourhoods Teams.

Northolt West End and Greenford Broadway Safer Neighbourhoods Teams have recently took part in a Get Hooked on Fishing tester session at the Mill Pond Lake in Greenford.

Get Hooked on Fishing is a national project that works with local communities to help create opportunities for young people, delivering fun and interactive training around the sport of angling. Their programmes are especially designed with the help of young people to give the participants more confidence and to demonstrate that there are alternative pathways and better opportunities available to them. At the same time the project helps to train and develop peer mentors encouraging young people to take an active part in how we run the local schemes.

The scheme works with all young people aged 6 and over and have a proven track record in delivering social inclusion, improvements in educational achievement and attendance. Referrals came from the Northolt West End SNT, Greenford Broadway SNT , Ealing YOT and the Belvue children’s care home in Northolt. Further sessions are anticipated in June whilst work is carried out by Ealing Council to prepare Northala Fields in Northolt as the permanent home of the project in London.
