Tall Ships

The Tall Ships Youth Trust is a charity dedicated to the personal development of young people aged between 14 and 25 through the real-life challenge of crewing large sailing vessel on the high seas.

This form of experience has proved highly successful in improving the trajectory of the young individual's personal skill development by providing voyages that are:

  • A personal physical and mental challenge
  • Teamwork under exacting conditions
  • Awareness of the value of leadership skills and teamwork
  • Teamwork with different social levels and nationalities to promote understanding and friendship
  • A sense of achievement and increased self-confidence

How much? - Through the generous support of a benefactor substantial support £250 per person is available.

Who - Disadvantaged young people aged 14 -15 or 16 - 25

Where - UK

Why? - Sail training is an excellent way for young people to learn how to work as a team, to take responsibility for themselves and others. They learn that the more effort they put into tasks, the more they get out of them and the more likely they are to realise their own potential in life. As a result, their self confidence and their levels of achievement increase.

Over 70% of young people say their problem solving skills improve over 80% say that they are better communicators and over 90 % say that they are better team players as a result.

Aaron (15) - "I'm always being told that I'm trouble. That I'm not good at anything - but my voyage changed all that. I've learnt how to work as a team, that discipline gets things done and above all, that I can do all sorts of things I didn't know I could. I can't wait to start telling all my mates."
