Rafal Morawski, a 13 year old pupil at Acton High School won the gold medal in the junior boys hammer throw at the Aviva EAA English Schools' Track and Field Championships. He won the event, held in Birmingham, with a throw of 58.51 metres. Rafal is a member of the West London Hammer School that trains at Perivale Park Athletics Track. (Sept 2010)

 

Achieng Ajulu-Bushell the British double breast stroke champion has moved to Ealing. The 16 year old champion will swim for our borough and train at Gurnell Leisure Centre in preparation for the 2012 Olympics. She holds the national 50 metre and 100 metre titles. (Sept 2010)

 

Acton High School has won four awards through the Transformation Trust and Blastbeat Education UK charities. Blastbeat teaches teenagers how to set up and run music and performance-based enterprises. Nine 'creative and media' diploma students from Acton High set up a multimedia company called Harmony Beatz as part of their course, to raise money for charity. Harmony Beatz proved so successful that it won the main Blastbeat award and there were two further individual awards for charity manager and art and design. To cap it off, the member of staff leading this project at the school won the outstanding teacher award. (Sept 2010)

Young politicians make history in Northern Ireland

Ealing's members of UK Youth Parliament, Allaan Heewa, 14 years-old, and Imaan Jan, 12 years-old joined over 300 Members of Youth Parliament from across the UK in Belfast .........

 

Results of the Ealing UK Youth Parliament elections

In line with other boroughs, Ealing has been allocated places for 2 MYPs, (members of Youth Parliament) and 2 deputys (DMYPs). A total of 3,059 votes were received.

The votes went as follows:

Elixir Ahmed: 5 votes, Manvir Aulakh: 1 vote, Devon Chow: 372 votes, Allaan Heewa: 632 votes, Imaan Jan: 623 votes, Akash Kamboj: 264 votes, Beckie Maynard: 616 votes, Lilit Movsisyan: 99 votes, Seywash Nebeziada: 137 votes
Sumriti Sharma: 77 votes, Aniqah Sheikh: 232 votes, Rhianna Williams: 1 vote

They attended their initial training residential from the 5 - 7 March in the Isle of Wight. A busy schedule ahead for the fab four including attending the monthly meetings at different locations in London over the next year, and the Annual Sitting (for MYP's only) in July which will be in Northern Ireland.

Again, young people excelled themselves at their annual conference. Special guests included Her Worshipful the Mayor of the London Borough of Ealing Barbara Yerolemou, council leaders and senior managers at the council. The topic of the day was on employment and during which, young people and adults exchanged and shared ideas. Young people put forward their suggestions on improvements and what they would like to see happen in their borough. Download a copy of the conference report.
